Jarrold raises over £35k for local charities – and this is just the start!
Back in November 2017 Jarrold set themselves the challenge to raise £50k for three charities – The Prince’s Trust, EACH nook appeal and Big C – by the year 2020, and funds already raised are helping transform people’s lives.
The Jarrold 250 Charity Initiative, set up to raise funds for three local charities by the time the independent department store reaches its 250th year, has so far raised £35,753.58 thanks to fundraising initiatives such as colleague quizzes and competitions, activities such as dragon boat racing, Christmas events such as Carols with the King and support from the Jarrold 250 club. The independent retailer has recently presented the three charities with much needed funds that are really helping to change people’s lives. This is how funds already raised are helping local communities:
The Prince’s Trust Get into Retail Programme
Jarrold’s donation so far has helped support the delivery of a Get into Retail employability course for local young people. The four-week course, delivered in October 2018 gave 14 unemployed young people the opportunity to gain the experience and training needed to help them to move into a job. Each young person received training in essential retail skills, took part in employability sessions to help them work on their CV’s and completed a work placement with Jarrold both in the store and in e-commerce and customer service. A celebration event at the end of the course gave a real boost to their confidence, as each shared their journey and plans for the future to an invited audience. Each had the opportunity to work with a mentor to help them to achieve their employment goals and five gained employment with Jarrold, a fantastic achievement.
EACH nook appeal
An impressive £10,000 has already been donated to EACH to support the completion of their new hospice at Framingham Pigot. As well as this contribution, Jarrold are continuing our support by stocking merchandise designed for EACH by internationally-renowned Norfolk artist Lucy Loveheart in our shop at The Forum. The Enchanted Meadow range includes bags, notelets and writing pads, all featuring rainbows, bluebells and butterflies.
Mike Hatton, EACH Norfolk Corporate Fundraising Assistant, said “Jarrold have been absolutely incredible in their support for EACH. They’ve raised an amazing £10,000 as part of the nook business network and continue to support us by featuring our Enchanted Meadow range of products, exclusively designed by Lucy Loveheart, at their shop in The Forum. They’ve been wonderful in supporting us on our journey to transform care for life-threatened children in Norfolk.”
Big C
We have also donated £10,000 to Norfolk Cancer Charity Big C to help start to continue to develop more cancer support services in Norfolk. Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive at Big C said “Enormous thanks to Jarrold for selecting us as one of their chosen charities and this very generous donation. The company’s ongoing support for Big C makes a significant difference to the work we do to help those in the Norfolk community affected by cancer.”
